Another "Cheesy" blog post
Pizza
What comes to mind at the mention of “pizza”? Pizza parties with your friends? Movie night with your family? That delicious greasy combination you can almost never say no to? Crispy crust and warm gooey cheese have a weird way of bringing us comfort on several occasions...but there’s more to it. Pizza brings people together.
Everywhere we look the world is consumed in COVID-19. This virus is taking jobs and taking lives, and it’s taking people away from each other. I’ve heard so many people say they’re stir crazy, depressed and they can’t take much more of the isolation. We’ve seen it too. Our guests are stressed, tired and defeated.
So the answer? Pizza night.
FRM is currently sheltering over 90 individuals per night who have no home to shelter in. These past couple weeks our mental health has suffered, cabin fever has taken over, and our guests are lonely.
Then Kinross Fort Knox came to our rescue. They found a way to be the community while our community is on hold. They purchased 40 pizzas from Great Alaska Pizza Company for everyone at the mission. They brought joy, comfort and aid to a local business and to those in need.
They built a community around pizza.
In this time of need we are seeing our community's golden heart. Several have come to our rescue and a simple thank you doesn’t even begin to cover our gratitude. We are humbled. We are joyful. We are blessed.
A special thank you to Anna and Kelly at Kinross Fort Knox and Don at Great Alaska Pizza Co. for making this happen.
