Home
In order for homeless and disadvantaged individuals to become self sufficient and independent, they need to have stability in their lives. This includes housing, freedom from addiction, adequate care for mental illness, a consistent source of income, and a well planned reintegration program into the community. It is our approach to utilize the agencies in the community to provide services for those that come to us in need. We like to say we have a "Native Blanket Toss'' approach to services. The more capable people we surround our clients with, the higher we can launch them. Using other community agencies allows us to focus and to make the best possible use of our resources. Our clients are the ultimate benefactors as they receive meaningful services as well as knowledge of the community service support system.
Emergency Services and Shelter Case Management
FRM serves homeless men, women, and children from not only the city of Fairbanks but also the entire Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) community and the outlying rural areas. Emergency services includes three hot meals, a bed each night, clothing, and a safe environment for a period not to exceed 180 days from the initial check-in date. Each individual who spends more than 30 days at the Mission will be required to meet with the case manager to establish a plan that moves them toward independence and self-sufficiency. This approach keeps the client's focus on moving out of the shelter, overcoming the circumstances, and gives clients tools and information about our community.
Homeless Veteran Program (FAITH-Finding Alternatives In Treating Homelessness)
The F.A.I.T.H. program is innovative in its approach to the care and rehabilitation of homeless veterans because of its focus on sustained employment as the means to end hopelessness. The program utilizes a case management approach which directly assists homeless veterans, as well as provides critical linkages to a variety of supportive services available in the Fairbanks and outlying communities. It focuses on meaningful job placements to help with job retention and includes follow up efforts to ensure that those who find employment and housing have the resources they need to avoid returning to homelessness.
Genesis Program
The program is a residential recovery and relapse prevention program which uses the faith-based Genesis Curriculum. It focuses on the needs of the whole person including mental, social, emotional, and spiritual. Also included are education, recidivism reduction activities, skill-building, career development and job placement, long-term housing placement, transitions support, and aftercare service.
FRM Recyclinq Green Collar Jobs Program
This program uses the Fairbanks Rescue Mission Recycling Center to create an employment environment in which the participant can be trained, evaluated, and certified in an actual work environment. The Green Collar Job Program is a holistic approach to attaining these goals. Mission residents operate the entire recycling operation and subsequently will not only gain a valuable sense of accomplishment but will also learn viable employment skills. The program is committed to adults who have employment barriers and focuses on their development as employees. Program participants will receive job placement, job training, careers counseling and resume preparation.
